Position Overview Carilion Clinic is seeking a dedicated Orthopedic Spine Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our growing Spine Surgery team. This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeons in a dynamic, high-volume practice serving a diverse patient population. The APP will provide comprehensive care across the continuum, including outpatient clinic, inpatient rounding, perioperative management, and first assist in the operating room.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
- Board certification as an NP or PA-C
- Current Virginia licensure (or eligibility)
- Strong clinical judgment and excellent communication skills
- Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care
Nice To Haves
- Previous orthopedic or spine experience preferred
- Surgical first assist experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for spine patients
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and labs
- Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative care
- First assist in spine surgical procedures
- Conduct inpatient rounds and coordinate discharge planning
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and recovery
- Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, therapy services, and care coordination teams
- Document accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
