About The Position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. The purpose of the position is to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management. Duties include but are not limited to: APN will be responsible for the primary medical needs of inpatients on the acute psychiatry inpatient unit Obtains medical histories and performs physician exams. Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations, including initial assessment interviews, history and physical exams; lab, imaging, medication and psychotherapy consultation orders, aftercare plans and follow up visits. Following the initial evaluation, the NP will provide appropriate follow up care including reassessments of diagnoses and conditions, and medication adjustments. Collaboratively independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice. Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management. Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies. Perform examinations and screening scales (such as AIMS, MoCA, HAM-D) and similar non-invasive examinations specific to the ongoing care of psychiatric patients which may include initiating ECT or TMS work up and coordinating with Somatic Services Collaboratively rounds for inpatients, observes and records patients' medical progress, and notifying the collaborating physician of significant changes in patients' condition Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services. Provides education to patients and their families. Perform emergency duties carried out for patients in life-threatening situations where a physician is not immediately available.

  • Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
