About The Position

ATTIC stands for "Alternatives to Traditional Incarceration of Citizens." We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to developing interventions that enable individuals to avoid unnecessary levels of incarceration, enhance community safety and provide a setting that facilitates treatment and the reduction of recidivism. We operate residential and other correctional programs throughout Wisconsin that provide case management, counseling and treatment groups, vocational training and high-risk client monitoring and supervision. Residential Treatment Centers for Correctional Clients operate 24 hours per day with on-duty staff for our clients. Staff monitor client behaviors and whereabouts in the community and enforce program rules and accountability. Substance abuse counseling, cognitive-based programming and correctional case management are provided in an intensive setting. Clients can be granted gradual re-entry into the community based on earned privileges. All service components of our Residential Treatment Centers emphasize trauma-informed care and employ an individualized approach to each client. The AODA Counselor is responsible for providing substance abuse counseling and group facilitation within the Madison-area Services Program to adult correctional clients in individual or group settings. This is a full-time, hourly position that is eligible for all company benefits including: health, dental, vision, life & disability, accident & critical illness insurance, pension, 403(b)

Requirements

  • Must have AODA Credentials (SAC-IT or higher)
  • Group facilitation experience with AODA and correctional clients.
  • Corrections experience required, residential or treatment center preferred.
  • Associate degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge and use of Motivational Interviewing techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with clients of diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform job duties with limited supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client and agency records.
  • Must adhere to the Department of Corrections (DOC) Fraternization Policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Completes intake and orientation materials for newly admitted clients.
  • Facilitates treatment group sessions, using the approved curriculum provided. This will include AODA treatment, Co-Occurring Disorders, Anger Management, Healthy Relationships, and Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Completes UPC and AODA assessments.
  • Evaluates and documents client participation by monitoring behavior, attitude, and progress.
  • Maintains accurate records and files of progress, services provided, treatment plans, and other required information.
  • Develops, implements, and periodically reviews and updates client treatment plans in collaboration with each client.
  • Recommends referrals to other community services/agencies as needed.
  • Maintains ongoing verbal and written communication with all co-workers and DOC regarding client behaviors, treatment progress and incident reports.
