About The Position

Kate Furbish Elementary School is a large, nature-based and nurturing learning community- serving students from PreK through Grade 2 in Brunswick, Maine. We are committed to fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning in every child. Our staff is passionate about early childhood development and dedicated to creating an inclusive and joyful classroom experience. We proudly implement the Maine Department of Education’s For ME program in all of our classrooms, which provide rich, developmentally appropriate learning experiences designed to support whole-child growth. Intentional play is an integral part of our day. Kate Furbish Elementary School is searching for a creative and energetic teacher to lead one of our PreK classrooms. This teacher will join a team of four general education and two special education PreK classrooms here at KFS. We also will have six Prek community partners on the team. Come join this dynamic and innovative team PreK teachers at our beautiful preK to grade 2 school, beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.

Requirements

  • Required Maine State Department of Education Certifications: 081 Eartly Childhood Teacher Certification
  • Have successful Prek and/or early elementary instructional experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop an inclusive classroom environment supportive of academic and social learning
  • Create effective rapport with students
  • Demonstrate strong primary literacy knowledge
  • Effectively plan and implement approved PreK curriculum
  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans and instructional materials
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual students
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports
  • Identify student needs and effectively collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students
  • Maintain a classroom environment conductive to learning, good health, and safety, in line with school wide behavior expectations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with families
  • Use technology effectively
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required
  • Work collaboratively with ed tech in classroom, as well as the larger PreK team
