About The Position

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Animal Welfare Division of the Development Services Department with The City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The Animal Welfare Representative is primarily responsible for providing customer service, clerical and administrative support and performing animal handling and basic animal care tasks. The duties performed require the possession or the ability to obtain a general knowledge of animal behavior, their care and safe handling techniques, prior to assuming the full duties and responsibilities of the position. Essential job functions include: educating, counseling, and exchanging information with the public, regarding shelter animals, divisional programs, services, activities and policies and procedures; responding to citizen complaints and inquiries; operating a two-way radio to dispatch service requests; receiving, identifying and assessing animals upon intake; evaluating and placing animals in reclaim, adoption, foster care and rescue status or programs; performing primary care tasks such as, supplying food and water or performing routine facility maintenance; maintaining information regarding customer contacts; performing computerized and manual data control and records management tasks; completing forms and reports; performing cash transactions; and operating standard office equipment. The Animal Welfare Representative has frequent contact with the general public and outside agencies to exchange information, locate animals or conduct tours of the facilities. The employee must use tact and diplomacy in answering inquiries, responding to complaints, and exchanging information regarding the operations of the work unit. Work is performed independently and/or with limited supervision. The assistance of an immediate supervisor is typically available when responding to unusual problems or situations. The work performance is evaluated for consistency with policies and procedures, through visual inspection of records and complaints registered by citizens.

Requirements
