About The Position

Provides daily care and support for animals—primarily kittens and puppies—in a shelter (nursery environment). This role focuses on neonatal and young animal care, including feeding, temperature regulation, sanitation, and monitoring for health concerns. The ideal candidate is patient, attentive to detail, and able to follow structured care protocols to ensure the health and survival of vulnerable animals.

Requirements

Basic understanding of animal care, including feeding, hygiene, and temperature regulation.
Willingness to learn and follow detailed neonatal animal care protocols.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records.
Patience and compassion when working with fragile animals requiring specialized care.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 30 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with animals (personal, volunteer, or professional) is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

Provide daily care for neonatal and young animals, including feeding, hydration, and stimulation for elimination.
Ensure animals maintain appropriate warmth and environmental comfort in accordance with nursery care standards.
Follow established nursery protocols, including feeding schedules, weight monitoring, and health observation procedures.
Monitor animals closely for signs of illness, distress, or developmental concerns and report issues promptly.
Maintain accurate records of feedings, weight checks, health observations, and other care activities.
Clean and disinfect nursery areas, enclosures, bedding, bottles, and equipment to prevent the spread of disease.
Assist with the intake and initial setup of nursery animals, including basic health checks and documentation.
Help prepare animals for transition to foster homes, adoption programs, or other shelter services.
Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure consistent care and adherence to nursery/shelter protocols.
Perform other duties as assigned to support nursery operations and overall shelter activities.
