Animal Shelter Attendant I

Requirements
- Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE.
- Requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
- Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
- Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Responsibilities
- Provides general care for animals in the shelter, including watering, feeding, grooming, performing routine tests and exams, and wound treatment.
- Cleans cages/kennels housing animals.
- Responsible for disease recognition, wound treatment, and records maintenance.
- Work according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.
- Performs daily inspections of animals; completing an animal count and sick list.
- Administers prescription medication under direction of a veterinarian and routinely gives vaccinations and determines movement of animals into adoption areas.
- Interacts with the public to provide information on shelter animals and assist with adoptions.
- Transports animals to a veterinarian or groomer as directed.
- Assists in euthanasia as directed by a Supervisor.
- Performs maintenance on the building as directed.
- Performs routine record keeping and animal intakes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
