The Department of Animal and Natural Sciences at SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech seeks a talented and innovative animal scientist to join the faculty team as an Assistant Professor. This is a 10-month teaching appointment with an emphasis on livestock management. The Animal and Natural Sciences department enrolls over 500 students and offers hands-on coursework utilizing horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and laying hens housed on campus. Offering both associate and bachelor's degree programs, SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech seeks applicants committed to experiential learning who enjoy teaching a variety of courses. The successful candidate will teach and advise undergraduate students and is expected to bring specialized expertise in animal science to the instructional programs of the department. The incumbent will also work with college farm managers to ensure a seamless relationship between lecture and laboratory experiences. Faculty expectations include mentorship of student clubs/organizations and partnering with state organizations, industry and animal producers. The successful candidate may be required to teach courses including, but not limited to: Introduction to Animal Science, Animal Science Techniques I & II, Introduction to Beef Production, Scientific Research Inquiry, Sheep and Goat Production, Swine Production and Management, Advanced Beef Production, Introduction to Agricultural Education and Immigration Issues in Agriculture. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. Candidates should also be prepared to teach in a variety of modalities, including in-person, online, hybrid, and remote formats. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include academic advisement, committee participation, curricular activities, including career-focused microcredential curriculum development, and scholarly activities such as research, grantsmanship, scholarship, mentorship of undergraduate researchers, and professional development that supports excellence in teaching. Faculty are expected to participate in assessment and other quality improvement initiatives that benefit the college, our students, the community and the discipline.
