Animal Control Officer - Part Time
About The Position
Hired individual will work 2-3 days per week, approximately 15 hours weekly, and will be responsible for the prevention, detection, and enforcement of the City’s animal control ordinances while safeguarding lives and property. This part-time position will work a coordinated schedule with the full-time animal control officer to provide coverage and services to our community. Will communicate to the public regarding pet-owner responsibilities, vaccinations, licensing requirements, and other animal control ordinances along with the humane treatment of animals. Location and Hours This position is located at the Police Department and throughout Alliance. Will be scheduled approximately 15 hours total per week and will include limited weekend or evening hours to provide care for animals. About the Position Type This position is a flexible part-time position and is paid hourly.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to learn applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations
- Working knowledge of animal restrains and care techniques, some knowledge of law enforcement
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with peers and members of the public
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid State Driver’s license or ability to obtain by the time of hire
Responsibilities
- Patrol the streets to locate stray animals and safely transport them to the animal shelter.
- Perform routine care for animals housed at the shelter and assist with office duties as needed.
- Investigate violations of animal control ordinances; serves notices or papers to enforce ordinances.
- Occasionally lift or move 50+ pounds; operate a motor vehicle to carry out job duties.
