About The Position

This position will be filling an open position at the Dairy Forage Research Center in Prairie du Sac, WI. This position involves milking cows, calf feeding, and moving cattle to parlor.

Requirements

• General data entry or record-keeping skills.
• Ability to follow animal health check and treatment protocols.
• Basic computer skills, including email correspondence in Microsoft Outlook, experience using Microsoft Excel and Word creating letters or related documents.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with and caring for calves up to 4 months of age.
• Experience operating skid steers and other utility vehicles.
• Experience working on a farm or in a related environment.
• Experience working directly with large animals, including feeding and basic care of cattle.
• Knowledge and experience performing modern animal husbandry procedures, e.g. (Feeding and nutrition management, vaccination and deworming, milking hygiene, breeding practices like artificial insemination, and basic care such as hoof trimming and calf rearing.)

Responsibilities

• Inspects and reports equipment problems to ensure optimal and safe operation
• Inventories, cleans, and maintains organization of animal holding spaces and supplies
• Maintains organization of and updates records related to research procedures
• Prepares food and formulas and feeds animals according to established schedules and specifications
• Observes animal behavior, performs basic animal care, and reports concerns to the appropriate entities to contribute to the health and well-being of animals and promote research
• Collects samples from animals and administers medications, injections, and treatments according to established protocols and procedures to be used for diagnostic tests and research
