About The Position

The Lorain County Metro Parks is seeking an experienced, motivated, and committed individual to join the Naturalist Department at the Carlisle Visitor Center. This position involves providing quality animal care to wildlife program ambassadors, maintaining the outdoor native plant garden, and assisting with subsequent programming. Ideal candidates should have previous experience working with and providing care for captive live animals, preferably reptiles and raptors. The role offers 32 hours a week, with some evening, weekend, and holiday hours as necessary. The individual must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in all seasons. This internship runs from July to December 2026, with a flexible start date depending on the chosen candidate's availability.

Requirements

Previous experience working with and providing care for captive live animals
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with staff and volunteers alike
Excellent communication skills are vital
Ability to work on multiple tasks (sometimes independently)
Ability to adapt to change
Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license
Satisfactorily complete a background check
Must not be a tobacco user (Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy)

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with reptiles and raptors
Working knowledge of positive reinforcement training and a focus on animal welfare
Effective public speaking
Knowledge of the use of basic power tools for exhibit maintenance
