About The Position

Pima Animal Care Center is looking to add an Animal Care Assistant II to our Pet Resource Team. This position provides in person customer support to help keep pets with their owners and out of the shelter. You will assist in providing multiple resources to pet families in need and enroll pets into our Safety Net Foster Program. This position will work with owners surrendering their animals into the shelter and support owners who may be experiencing a crisis.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience performing secretarial or administrative tasks that demonstrate the required knowledge and skills INCLUDING one year of experience providing overall support and coordinator for a department, specialized program, or small business. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
  • OR: One year of experience with Pima County as an Animal Care Assistant I, Administrative Assistant I, or a similar clerical classification as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
  • Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and “Work Experience" sections of the application.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum six (6) months experience working in behavioral health, social work, and/or community outreach positions.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Minimum one (1) year customer service experience.
  • Minimum six (6) months experience working, volunteering, or interning in an animal shelter, boarding facility, or animal care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Answers calls, routes messages, and resolves routine problems via phone, email, or in person
  • Manages office tasks, including word processing, document editing, data entry, and filing system maintenance
  • Handles dogs and cats of varying temperaments, assists with vaccinations, microchipping, and general care like feeding and cleaning
  • Specializes in specific program functions, provides policy explanations, and assists in writing SOPs
  • Acts as a lead when the supervisor is absent, maintains training procedures and documents, and trains other staff
  • Issues permits, licenses, bonds, reviews cash drawers, prepares deposits, and processes accounting documents
  • Maintains databases, retrieves data, compiles reports, and ensures accuracy of records
  • Schedules meetings, conferences, and other appointments
  • May train, supervise, and evaluate staff, including hiring and termination recommendations
  • Operates various office equipment, including computers, photocopiers, and calculators.
