About The Position

Do you have enough self-confidence to be the first face a pet owner sees in our facility? If you do, you will be comfortable working with dogs and cats and communicating with their owners. The ability to deal with a diverse population is a must. From answering calls, managing inquiries, to talking with citizens regarding everything about lost and found, injured and healthy, dogs, cats and other critters, our Office Assistant is a naturally fast-paced individual who effectively multitasks and communicates with a high degree of professionalism and has a strong work ethic. Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Requires 2 years of related administrative support experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must receive pre-exposure rabies vaccinations.

Nice To Haves

  • Customer Service in an animal care or pet supply setting strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet, communicate effectively with, and actively assist patrons.
  • Receive and respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency, animal related calls for service, information, and complaints.
  • Screen and respond to inquiries and complaints, provide information on policies and procedures, and transfer to other staff, as appropriate.
  • Operate a multi-line telephone console and process and enter complaint information into a computer-aided animal control dispatch system; determine the level of priority and assign calls for service to Animal Control Officers and other staff.
  • Perform administrative support work such as word processing, creating spreadsheets, data entry/retrieval, and functions that may require interpretation, judgment and determining appropriate processes to be used.
  • Reviews forms, data, and other documents and information to ensure accuracy and conformance to established procedures and/or policies.
  • Maintains shelter activity calendar for the use of conference rooms and scheduled functions.
  • Collect, process, and record financial information and transactions for fees collected.
  • Handle animals during intake, including but not limited to transporting animals from confinement space to alternate confinement space and providing vaccinations.
  • Promote a caring attitude toward all animals and treat animals humanely and with compassion, regardless of circumstances, including those that are sick, injured, feral, or aggressive.
  • Demonstrates MPHD's core values of Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Equality (P.R.I.D.E.) when interacting with the public and employees of the Metropolitan Government.
  • Support and participate in departmental response to disaster and emergency events.
