About The Position

At NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the Anesthesia Technician plays a crucial role in surgical care by ensuring the quality of service and monitoring for patients undergoing anesthesia across all anesthetizing locations. This involves maintaining, servicing, setting up, testing, and troubleshooting equipment, as well as providing essential technical assistance to the Anesthesia staff in patient care. The hospital emphasizes advanced technology and highly skilled clinicians to manage complex cases.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Mechanical training or experience with equipment, including knowledge of the operation of sterilizers and sterility techniques

Nice To Haves

  • ASATT certification
  • Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician
  • Previous surgical or procedural experience

Responsibilities

  • Assists the anesthesia staff in the set up and initialization of hemodynamic monitoring equipment.
  • Assists anesthesia staff in care of patients before, during, and immediately after anesthesia which involves the following: Transfer of patients from stretchers to operating table; attachment of vital signs monitoring equipment; Positioning and hold patients for procedures, i.e spinal, epidurals; Assist in endotracheal intubations by preparing and holding equipment; Assist in transfer from operating room to PACU.
  • Conducts performance tests, performs calibration and first level repairs (i.e. battery changes, cable swapping, monitor checks) of anesthesia equipment.
  • Prepares blood pressure transducers. Calibrates them to the appropriate machine. Sets up IV solutions and IV infusions.
  • Sets up equipment for use in the work area such as, but not limited to, connecting input and output hoses, bronchoscopes, and assembling breathing circuits. Delivers required anesthesia equipment as needed.
  • Troubleshoots routine problems with equipment in OR during use, repairing or replacing as necessary.
  • Acts as a liaison to clinical support departments to ensure that all Anesthesia clinical needs are met in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Assists supervisor in orientation and on-the-job training of employees.
  • Assumes other related duties as needed.
