About The Position

The Anesthesia Technician supports and assists the Physicians and Registered Nurses within Surgical Services as it relates to Anesthesia services pursuant to the objectives and policies of Community Memorial Healthcare.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Healthcare experience

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • Training from an Anesthesia Equipment program

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to physicians and RNs under their direction and within scope of practice.
  • Performs daily tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the unit.
  • Documents activities accurately and in a timely manner to ensure quality patient care and compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Supports unit operations by maintaining supplies and equipment necessary for anesthesia patient care. Monitors stock levels, restocks as needed, and removes unsafe or damaged equipment from service.
  • Participates in unit Performance Improvement activities.
  • Cleans and decontaminates reusable anesthesia supplies and equipment.
  • Cleans and turns over anesthesia supplies between cases.
  • Maintains stock of anesthesia medications and supplies, processes orders, and sterilizes instruments per protocol.
  • Supports the anesthesiologist preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively with equipment and supply needs.
  • Serves as the first point of contact for anesthesia equipment troubleshooting.
  • Assists with patient transport, lifting, and positioning under the direction of the RN or MD.
  • Manages hazardous waste as needed.
  • Initiates communication with Nursing Management regarding areas requiring feedback, follow-up, or resolution.
  • Remains attentive to case flow and assists with instrument and equipment needs between cases.
  • Performs duties and maintains records as required.
  • Applies principles of aseptic technique in the handling and transport of sterile supplies.
  • Rotates sterile supplies and checks expiration dates on all supplies.
  • Complies with dress code and infection prevention policies.
  • Pulls supplies for surgical procedures as needed.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency situations and locates all stat supplies and carts.
  • Precepts new perioperative care technicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
