SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Operating Room Clinical Manager performs a variety of technical and patient card functions that provide assistance to the Anesthesia Department and surgical team throughout the perioperative period. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in and maintains the organization of inventory in the anesthesia supply room based on established PAR levels maintaining principles of asepsis. Checks and cleans anesthesia machines, carts, and equipment and supplies with the exception of rubber goods. Assembles invasive lines (peripheral, arterial, and pulmonary artery) according to policy and procedures, maintaining aseptic technique. Restocks anesthesia machines and carts based on an established schedule and PAR levels. Assists anesthesia personnel and perioperative nurses to prepare and position patients for regional anesthesia. Inspects and disinfects equipment utilized by the Anesthesia Department throughout the perioperative period. (TEE Probes) Notifies biomedical engineering department and/or manufacturer when repairs are required. Assists anesthesia personnel setting up and troubleshooting monitoring equipment. Assists anesthesia personnel in setting up and operating equipment utilized in determining blood clotting and hemoglobin (ACT). Assists in various procedures related to auto transfusion including set up of blood salvaging devices. Orders anesthesia equipment and supplies, as directed. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: High School level of knowledge with ability to comprehend technical and medical terminology. Knowledge of medical terminology and principles of asepsis required. Knowledge of cardiovascular equipment, cardiovascular technology and anatomy required. Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care to patients throughout life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. EXPERIENCE: Six months operating room experience. Additional direct patient care experience is preferred. Anesthesia Technician Certification preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent is exposed to patient-care environment and works with electrical equipment. Any risk of exposure to contagious or noxious elements is minimized by adherence to safety procedures and protocols. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
