About The Position

The Anesthesia Tech assists licensed anesthesia providers with duties related to the care and monitoring of patients and equipment. This role involves a variety of tasks from equipment maintenance and inventory management to direct assistance during patient procedures and training new staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).
  • Minimum of two (2) years previous experience as Anesthesia Tech, PCT, Surgical Services or the like.
  • Knowledge of hospital environment.
  • Certification A.T. (Certified Anesthesia Technician)

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, sterilizes and sets up anesthesia equipment.
  • Assists anesthesia provider with patient assessment, monitoring, transport, positioning, insertion of intravenous and other invasive lines, and airway management.
  • Provides daily maintenance of equipment and troubleshoots malfunctions.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Works in a secure department with access to areas where medications are stored.
  • Replenishes medications into various carts/boxes, or kits for anesthesia use.
  • Prepares and assembles transducer lines and equipment necessary for invasive pressure monitoring as necessary or requested.
  • Assists anesthesia provider as requested in preparation and draping of patient.
  • Assists and anticipates needs of anesthesia provider in invasive monitor insertion and procedures such as pulmonary artery catheter, central venous access, regional anesthesia.
  • Sets up OR for cases according to licensing restrictions which, may include the following: Preparation IV solution and tubing set-up and IV warming devices, Rapid infuser.
  • Cleans and organizes anesthesia workroom and medication room.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to Biomed and management.
  • Complete ERS as needed.
  • Ensures there is no reuse (re-cleaning or re-sterilization) or reprocessing of any medical equipment/product/supply/device that is labeled single-use and/or disposable.
  • Troubleshoots errors and performs quality assurance checks.
  • Participates in training new staff.
  • Acts as a resource for perioperative area regarding anesthesia department processes.
  • Facilitates learning and provides teaching opportunities for anesthesia related processes.
