About The Position

The role of the Anesthesia Technician is to increase the functionality of the Anesthesia Department by providing direct assistance to the Anesthesia Providers, as well as assuring the availability of supplies and properly operating equipment for the department. The Anesthesia Technician demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • BLS certification; basic heart rhythm class; IV insertion class.
  • ASATT eligible
  • Understanding of sterile technique and operating room protocol.
  • Math skills for equipment size calculation and basic drug/solution volume calculations.
  • Basic EKG recognition; ability to start IV’s.
  • Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Constant lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Constant handing, talking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Frequent lifting up to 100 lbs. or more
  • Frequent walking, lifting, carrying, stooping, twisting, reaching, and feeling
  • Occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
  • Occasional standing, sitting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, and squatting

Nice To Haves

  • Some College level science classes preferred
  • Recent clinical experience as an Anesthesia Tech preferred

Responsibilities

  • Routine maintenance and basic trouble-shooting of anesthesia equipment.
  • Provide clinical assistance to Anesthesia Providers, including but not limited to: setting up and assisting with placement of non-invasive/invasive monitors; starting IV’s; doing intra-operative blood sample testing; ordering medications; assisting during induction of anesthesia; giving medications as directed by Anesthesia Provider.
  • Changing anesthetic breathing circuits between cases; setting up age-specific supplies/monitors for cases; restocking/cleaning anesthetic supplies used during cases.
  • Restock Omnicell anesthesia carts; order storeroom supplies; order solutions/medications from pharmacy.
  • Meet with sales representatives for evaluation/integration of new products into department.
  • Review anesthesia charges for accuracy; assist with orientation of new department employees; attend departmental staff meetings; assist with testing and keep records of departmental staff competencies.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service by interacting appropriately with patients/families in all age groups; participate in patient-outcome improvement activities; maintain HIPPA standards.
