About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY The Ancillary Float is a member of the support staff within Surgical Services and trained in maintaining the physical environment of the Surgical Services Department. Duties include terminal cleaning, all daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly housekeeping duties. Works closely with the Operating Room (OR) RN’s to ensure necessary equipment is clean and available for patient needs. The Ancillary Float is trained to safely transport patients to the surgical department and assist RN’s in transporting patients back to the nursing units and replaces stock items into the supply carts in each OR. This position maintains good public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and other staff members in a friendly and professional manner. Assists the department in attaining goals by assisting other areas within the department as requested. Ensures the safe handling of infectious material to protect all patients and employees.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain records and label items
  • Has the physical and mental health sufficient to accomplish the duties of an Ancillary Float
  • Ability to work well with other people in an environment of maximum activity

Nice To Haves

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred, or to be obtained prior to completion of orientation.
  • Experience in Operating Room (OR) housekeeping preferred (General housekeeping experience acceptable).
  • Experience in cleaning/processing surgical instrumentation preferred.

Responsibilities
