About The Position

Analytical Chemist Company: The Boeing Company Boeing is seeking an Analytical Chemist to join our team in the greater St. Louis area in Berkeley, Missouri . This person will be responsible for the chemical analysis of a wide range of materials including (but not limited to) fluids (e.g., hydraulic, oils, fuels, coolant, chemical processing), foreign object debris, metallic and non-metallic materials (e.g. ceramics, composites, plastics, glass). They will collaborate closely with engineers across the enterprise to support primarily defense program development and production. Position requires consulting with customers to independently design and execute lab experiments which includes the use of (but not limited to) equipment such as FT-IR, Raman, GC-MS, DSC, TGA, KF Titration, IC, and ICP-OES, particle counters, digital microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, and hand tools. The applicant should possess a self-motivated attitude with attention to details, with an investigational problem-solving mindset. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location. This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance post-start is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance post-start is required.
  • To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

  • Understanding the capabilities and limitations of various analytical techniques and ability to interpret and compile data with clear conclusions in detailed technical reports.
  • Creative experimental design and quantitative analysis experience.
  • Experience with using a LIMS system
  • Experience with the operation of the following laboratory equipment: FT-IR, Raman, GC-MS (including TD and Pyro), DSC, TGA, IC, ICP-OES, SEM-EDS, KF titrator, particle counters, and digital microscopes. Calibrating, maintaining and interpreting data from any of the above.
  • Experience with organic and inorganic aerospace coatings.
  • Relevant experience with aerospace industry standard testing methods including ASTM D3330 and ASTM G93/93M and NAVAIR 01-1A-17 and SAE AS4059 contamination testing.
  • Active Security Clearance
  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct both routine and non-routine complex chemical analysis. Examples include testing for material specification, contaminant identification, material identification (including FOD) or composition, air sampling, salt fog, chemical processing, shelf life extension, etc.
  • Generate detailed technical reports summarizing the testing conducted while providing clear understandable conclusions.
  • Explain complex technical concepts in a meaningful manner to non-technical customers.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
  • Promote standardization across business activities.
  • Test and make recommendations to keep chemical coating baths within specifications.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Incorporate environmental health and safety, LEAN, and Quality principles into materials and processes, research, design and qualification, work procedures, and lab and office areas
  • Develop, document, and teach new test methods with available equipment to meet customer requirements.
  • Research new equipment, test methods and integrate new technologies as appropriate to meet evolving customer needs.
