Job Description: The Analyst, Import/Export (Classification), is a key member of Microchip’s Global Trade Compliance (GTC) team. This position supports the import and export classification of Microchip’s products by accurately applying Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes, Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs), and other regulatory classifications. The Analyst will follow established procedures, handle routine classification assignments, and work closely with team members and stakeholders to ensure compliant product classifications. The ideal candidate will have foundational knowledge of global import/export classification, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret technical documentation to support compliant product classifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; degree in International Business/Trade, Supply Chain/Logistics, Electrical/Computer Engineering, CS, or Physics is preferred.
  • 0–3 years of experience in global trade compliance, with a focus on import/export classification preferred.
  • Ability to interpret technical product information (e.g., schematics, datasheets, block diagrams) for regulatory purposes.
  • Superior organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • This job requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by the export laws of the United States. Candidates are required to provide proof of either US citizenship, Permanent US residency or classification as a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b (a) (3). This position is not eligible for Microchip immigration sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic working knowledge of Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Commerce Control List (CCL), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and the US Munitions List (USML).
  • Familiarity with HTS, ECCN, Schedule B, and other international classification systems.
  • Experience with classification and compliance applications (e.g., SNAP-R, USITC HTSUS) and ERP systems.
  • Previous experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Knowledge of EU and ASEAN classification regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with logistics, import regulations, export filing requirements, and international shipping procedures.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and experience with data visualization or analytics tools such as Tableau.

Responsibilities

  • Product Classification: Apply U.S. HTS, ECCN, Schedule B, and international codes (EU, UK, ASEAN, etc.) to Microchip products, following established procedures and regulatory guidelines.
  • Review and analyze product specifications to ensure accurate product classification, handling routine cases and escalating complex issues as needed.
  • Assist in drafting and submitting Commodity Classification Automated Tracking System (CCATS) requests, including supporting documentation for encryption items.
  • Assist in drafting and submitting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) binding ruling requests.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Support: Work with engineering, product management, manufacturing, logistics, and sales teams to obtain technical data and product specifications required for accurate classification.
  • Provide classification-related support and guidance to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Compliance & Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate classification records and supporting documentation in accordance with U.S. government and company requirements.
  • Participate in periodic audits and reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with global trade regulations.
  • Stay current on classification requirements and regulatory changes as directed by management.
