About The Position

The Analyst/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) position at Southwest Gas involves managing electronic mapping, drafting, and facility information maintenance processes. The role requires maintaining knowledge of various GIS applications, evaluating workflow processes, and providing leadership in the GIS department. The incumbent will perform advanced spatial data analyses and act as a liaison between divisions and corporate GIS administration.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in GIS or related field from an accredited university.
• 1 to 3 years of relevant experience, or 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
• Knowledge of GIS platforms and IT systems.
• Experience with relational databases, SQL, and Python or other programming languages.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of engineering modeling applications.
• Experience with document management software.

Responsibilities

• Maintain current knowledge of all Southwest Gas GIS applications including ESRI ArcGIS/ArcFM, AutoCAD, and GPS software.
• Evaluate workflow processes and initiate system efficiencies.
• Create and execute advanced spatial data queries using geoprocessing tools, Python, and SQL.
• Perform analyses to support data requests for State, DOT, and operations pipe integrity programs.
• Act as a liaison between the division and corporate GIS System Administrator.
• Provide leadership in the GIS department in the supervisor's absence.
• Develop and execute custom spatial queries to identify spatial data patterns and trends.
• Ensure the overall accuracy and quality of GIS data and products.
• Troubleshoot and identify solutions with the GIS system.
• Identify work process improvements and develop automated tools for efficiencies.
• Assist other departments in analyzing GIS data and provide concise reports.
• Conduct user training on the GIS system, AutoCAD, and GPS software.
