About The Position

The Cost Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate operational cost and
profitability reporting and analysis to support organizational leadership
decision-making. This role updates and maintains general ledger and
statistical-based data sets, updates and maintains charge code level costing
data sets, creates reports and performs analysis on patient populations
utilizing cost accounting data, and demonstrates proficiency with organizational
informational systems while ensuring data integrity and compliance with sound
cost accounting principles. Operating at a associate individual contributor
capacity, the position supports the entire health system and directly impacts
financial reporting accuracy, cost management, and profitability insights. The
role collaborates closely with finance, decision support, and operational
leadership teams, exercising independent judgment on cost allocation
methodologies and data analysis. This position reports to the Director of
Decision Support.

Requirements

• Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, health related, or other information technology related field

Nice To Haves

• 3 years financial experience or 1 year of healthcare financial experience

Responsibilities

• Updates and maintains general ledger and statistical-based data sets on a periodic basis for each facility based on sound cost accounting principles.
• Updates and maintains charge code level costing data sets on a periodic basis based on sound cost accounting principles.
• Creates reports and performs analysis on patient populations utilizing cost accounting data.
• Demonstrates and uses proficiency with all available organizational informational systems, including internal Decision Support systems, core financial systems, and other data warehouses.
• Performs data manipulation and analysis using available tools to support cost accounting needs.
• Supports the development and maintenance of accurate costing methodologies across the health system.
• Collaborates with operational and clinical teams to validate cost data and resolve discrepancies.
• Prepares ad hoc profitability and cost variance analysis to inform leadership decisions.
• Ensures compliance with healthcare-specific cost accounting standards and internal policies.
• Completes assigned goals and other duties as assigned.
