About The Position

Purpose: To test, calibrate, install, and maintain electric meters and meter equipment; to accurately measure energy usage and relate meter theory and concepts to member inquires. Monitor, investigate and troubleshoot advanced metering infrastructure devices and networks.

Requirements

  • High school graduate; or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Minimum one year of experience operating computers in business environment.
  • Troubleshooting experience

Nice To Haves

  • Strongly prefer previous electrical and mechanical experience
  • Five years of experience as a Meter Technician; or equivalent with progressive responsibility
  • Completion of two years of vocational/technical school or college-level training in electrical/electronic; or equivalent.
  • DOT certification

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in testing, repairing, and maintaining all types of single and polyphase meters and metering equipment.
  • Accurately follow instructions for testing all metering types and forms in accordance with North Georgia EMC and industry standards with the ability to instruct and teach others to, as well.
  • Thoroughly clean, test and repair meters with skill and proficiency while ensuring meters are properly sealed after testing.
  • Accurately record and maintain information on all meters that are tested and repaired.
  • Program and interrogate all advance metering infrastructure.
  • Install single and polyphase meters and metering equipment.
  • Install wiring for transformer rated metering in accordance of North Georgia EMC standards.
  • Set and maintain single and polyphase metering above 200 Amps, as required.
  • Wire sockets for single and polyphase NGEMC mounted meters with skill, neatness, and proficiency.
  • Verify meter installations and transformer bank connections for accuracy when changing meters or on a need to basis when instructed to.
  • Process meter change records in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Accurately and safely install and remove all meter forms in accordance with North Georgia EMC safety procedures. Immediately report any unsafe conditions or defective equipment to supervisor.
  • Conduct job hazard analysis when appropriate before beginning a job.
  • Exercise general care and orderliness in performance work. Do not take shortcuts.
  • Assist Communications Team members with installation, testing and turn-up of Distribution Automation devices operating on the RF Gridstream network.
  • Maintain connections to all types of meters and recording devices.
  • Installs and verifies hookups to special equipment, as required.
  • Maintain use of all tools and equipment ensuring to return tools and equipment to their proper place when not in use.
  • Maintain inventory of repair parts for all metering and related functions.
  • Ensure warehousing of metering and related material is performed in a timely manner.
  • Monthly read industrial meters and prepare billing data on all industrial accounts.
  • Read and download billing data in the field, as needed.
  • Help maintain spreadsheets of all industrial accounts and accurately provide billing information to Customer Accounts.
  • Help verify billing information against past customer usage patterns; immediately report any change in usage pattern to supervisor within 48 hours.
  • Maintain current knowledge of TVA rate structure and all special billing rates to relay information to customer billing inquires accurately and timely.
  • Maintain current knowledge of different computer disk operating systems and all applicable meter programming and translation software to translate and program meters and recorders.
  • Maintain knowledge base of Landis & Gyr advanced metering infrastructure applications.
  • Provide daily AMI systems monitoring by using the L&G command center and reporting capabilities.
  • Prove AMI Systems programming and troubleshooting by using the L&G radio shop and endpoint test manager applications.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be trained and assist with implementation of various communication network technologies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to upgrade firmware & Device Code Word (DCW) in metering over-the-air.
  • Duties include but are not limited to: cellular and fiber optic equipment installation, fiber optic splicing, service restoration and RF Gridstream Equipment Installation.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.
