About The Position

IndyEast is a collaborative effort focused on helping residents across Indianapolis’ Eastside build financial stability and long-term opportunity. This place-based initiative brings together neighborhood organizations, employers, small businesses, housing partners, and local leaders to expand access to good jobs, stable housing, asset-building opportunities, and small business support. VISTA members will play an active role in strengthening IndyEast initiatives by helping partners coordinate programs, uncover insights through research and data, share stories of impact, and build the tools and systems that make collaborative community work more effective. Through their service, members will gain experience in community development, economic mobility initiatives, and cross-sector collaboration while helping expand opportunities for individuals and families across the Eastside.

Responsibilities

  • Economic Development & Partnerships VISTA: collaborate with the Economic Development team and community stakeholders to strengthen economic opportunity for residents; partner with local leaders, nonprofit business associations, and community-based organizations to support corridor revitalization and job creation in historically underinvested neighborhoods; assist with outreach and partnership coordination, help develop workshops and resource guides, and support initiatives that connect residents to entrepreneurship resources, employment opportunities, and community-based economic development efforts; research best practices and help build systems that strengthen the local economy; act as a collaborator and connector, building relationships and supporting initiatives that create a more vibrant, inclusive local economy.
  • Housing Development & Stability VISTA: work with the IndyEast Housing Development team to support ongoing, community-focused initiatives related to housing affordability and preventing displacement; collaborate with local nonprofits, community partners, and governmental agencies to lift up our economically diverse community through the promotion of affordable housing, neighborhood investment, and creative redevelopment strategies; support the management of IndyEast grant programs, including but not limited to owner-occupied repairs, predevelopment activities, and community development capacity building; act as a collaborator and connector, building relationships and becoming involved in housing-related programs and long-term wealth building.
  • Impact & Evaluation VISTA: work with the IndyEast team and evaluation partners to strengthen systems that track progress and measure impact across economic mobility initiatives on Indianapolis’ Eastside; collaborate with nonprofits and program staff to support data collection, research, and reporting that inform strategies in workforce development, housing stability, wealth-building, and small business growth; develop shared data tools, dashboards, and reporting processes that track outcomes and community impact; support data analysis, research best practices in program evaluation, and contribute to reports and learning materials that guide decision-making and continuous improvement; act as a collaborator and connector, helping partners coordinate data efforts and strengthen systems that support accountability, learning, and long-term impact.
  • Wealth-Building & Financial Stability VISTA: collaborate with the Wealth-Building Opportunities team and local leaders to strengthen initiatives that help residents build financial stability and long-term economic mobility on Indianapolis’ Eastside; partner with nonprofits, financial coaches, and evaluators to support programs that help residents build savings, strengthen financial capability, and pursue asset-building opportunities; connect residents to homeownership preparation, entrepreneurship resources, education and training opportunities, and other pathways to long-term financial security; act as a bridge between residents, local organizations, and IndyEast while researching best practices, planning activities, and developing partnerships to support economic prosperity that is inclusive, sustainable, and grounded in community.
  • Workforce Pathways & Employer Engagement VISTA: work with the IndyEast Workforce Pathways team and local leaders to develop opportunities to increase economic stability and mobility for residents; collaborate with nonprofits, businesses, employers, and local government to research and support strategies that strengthen career pathways, workforce training, and long-term wealth-building for individuals and families; foster employer partnerships, contribute to the development of workshops and resources, and assist in coordinating training opportunities that strengthen workforce pathways; act as a bridge between residents, employers, and IndyEast while researching best practices, planning activities, and developing partnerships to support workforce development.
