About The Position

Summary/Objective The roles and responsibilities of a school-based paraprofessional for the hearing impaired/intervener are relative to the needs of the individual student who is HI/Deaf. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions: Facilitate the interaction between an individual student with HI/Deaf and their social and physical environment. Provide primary access to the receptive and expressive communication of an individual student with HI/Deaf. Identify (access) and maximize the opportunities for further educational progress and overall development (i.e., motor, sensory, social/emotional). Provide input to the Teacher of the Hearing Impaired. Provide support for the consistent and ongoing modification of instruction and development of associated educational materials. Document the education progress of an individual student with HI/Deaf as directed by the Teacher of the Hearing Impaired or Director of ESS. When needed, develop appropriate educational materials relative to the needs of the individual student as directed by the student’s teacher(s). Competencies Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite software programs and other programs as it relates to the position Ability to operate most standard office equipment Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment This job operates at school sites. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regularly required to see, talk and hear Regularly required manual dexterity to make hand signs Occasionally lift, push and/or move up to 50 pounds Use specific vision including close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus Position Type/Expected Hours of Work At-Will Notice of Employment does not provide a guarantee of a particular schedule of work or a minimum number of days or hours. This is a 9-month, 32-hour per week position. The employee will work eight hours per day Monday through Thursday.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with children with hearing impairments.
  • Ability to sign.
  • Experience working with children with multi-sensory issues.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card with an IVP number through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
