About The Position

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring part-time/student Federal Work Study (FWS) to work as an America Reads tutor. This position will work off-site at a public school in the West Valley. We will do our best to place you at a school that is conveniently located based on your location. The America Reads Program Coach is responsible for delivering the Read Better Be Better after-school literacy program to 3rd-grade Readers and their middle school Leaders. The Program Coach will usually be the only certified RBBB employee on site, facilitating a program of up to 32 students. K-1 PROGRAM: The K1 Program Coach is responsible for delivering the Read Better Be Better after-school literacy program to Kindergarten/1st-grade Readers and their 4th/5th- grade Leaders. The Program Coach will usually be the only certified RBBB employee onsite, facilitating a program of up to 24 students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
  • Student must be attending Estrella Mountain Community College during the current semester (enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits in the Fall 2025 semester).
  • In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in working with elementary-aged children in an educational setting.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with young children.
  • Prior experience as a tutor, particularly with elementary-aged children.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Read Better Be Better (RBBB) program materials are prepared, in good repair, and ready for student arrival time.
  • Facilitate Read Better Be Better literacy activities included in the curriculum for the duration of each program session while ensuring that all RBBB procedures are followed.
  • Train & monitor student Leaders as necessary.
  • Maintain general communication with school-certified staff to optimize student experience and performance.
  • Effectively communicate program successes and challenges to the Program Coordinator.
  • Attend weekly offsite Coach meetings.
  • Attend all-team mandatory meetings at Read Better Be Better (RBBB) headquarters each semester.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned that are required of the employee in this job.
