About The Position

The Ambulatory Services Coordinator will provide direct nursing care for outpatients presenting to Thayer County Health Services for treatment, medications, infusion, and various types of procedures. The Ambulatory Services Coordinator will also work in the Surgery department as needed. The Ambulatory Services Coordinator will be responsible for directing the scheduling of the outpatient services with the premise of providing excellent customer service and continuity of care for patients. The patient population will include those patients known as recurring patients, who have multiple visits in one month, as well as those coming for one time service.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program
  • Current RN license in state of Nebraska
  • Must possess excellent communication skills
  • BLS, ACLS certifications required
  • Recognizes and has a commitment to meet the ethical, moral and legal obligations of nursing.
  • Maintains and promotes good health practices.
  • Will conform to TCHS procedures and policies.
  • Will perform all duties as described by the job description within the scope of licensure.
  • Maintains current professional license in accordance with state law.
  • Provides leadership in medical concerns in the absence of the physician.
  • Does not discuss patient matters such as medical treatment, diagnosis or history outside of the clinical setting in, keeping in compliance of HIPAA.
  • Understand and comply with the requirements of Thayer County Health Services’ Compliance Program, including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Manual, all supporting policies for compliance and compliance plans.
  • Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by organizational policy and as requested by supervisor.
  • Willingly accepts new responsibilities and cooperates with implementation of change.
  • Demonstrates respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence through a “We Care” philosophy with all patients, visitors, and TCHS staff.
  • Dresses in a neat, clean uniform for patient care; maintain high personal hygiene standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, administers, and documents oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous medications using barcode scanning in the electronic health system; observes sites of insertion, rate of flow in IV’s and discontinues IV’s.
  • Performs appropriate assessment of patient clinical status.
  • Coordinates and performs RN duties for wound care.
  • Assumes responsibility for accuracy of procedures and maintenance of high standards of nursing care.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records.
  • Performs required prior authorization with insurance companies prior to service provision.
  • Records and transcribes patient orders from physicians and enters orders accurately into electronic health records.
  • Schedules patients for services and coordinate effectively with other departments for multi-service appointments.
  • Communicates appropriate follow-up information to patients and other departments which may be involved in additional scheduled visits.
  • Acts as the principal contact person for receiving outpatient provider orders. Requires any provider orders to be faxed with signature of provider and diagnosis.
  • Assists other departments as needed.
  • Promotes patient cooperation and assists in teaching patient self-care.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance, committees where needed, attend in-service programs, meetings, and educational workshops.
  • Assists with, monitors, and discharges outpatient cardioversions
  • Performs nursing care and services for patients such as observing and recording signs and symptoms, administering sterile treatments, using and caring for special equipment, and assisting with recovery of patients, according to medical and/or nursing plan.
  • Perform duties in care and cleaning of surgery area and equipment after use, prepare and sterilize patient instruments and supplies, keep utility and service rooms in order.
  • Observes, records, and reports to the appropriate persons, general and specific physical and mental conditions of patients, and signs and symptoms which may be indicative of change.
  • Performs selected procedures and treatments, provides nursing care in Pre-op Area, Operating Room and Recovery Room following demonstration of competence.
  • Assists, implements, and evaluates surgical patient care.
  • Assists in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
