This position participates in and supports the overall operation of the pharmacy technicians, including staffing and work assignments. The role serves as a liaison between the department and staff, information systems, physicians, patients, family, and other site staff. The technician performs pharmaceutical procedures for medication preparation and distribution, ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy. This involves exercising sound judgment and utilizing developed clinical skills to provide pharmaceutical support to the patient's plan of care based on diagnosis in a timely manner. Adherence to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures is required to ensure privacy and safety. The role may also involve performing specific tasks and/or orienting other staff to the department. Key responsibilities include assisting with drug preparation, distribution, inventory control, quality control, and proper documentation, as well as handling billing, pricing, record keeping, and maintaining drug distribution records. The technician will accurately interpret, transcribe, and dispense orders/prescriptions under the direction of a pharmacist, ensuring tasks are completed within established departmental time frames. The position also involves mentoring students, interns, and other pharmacy technicians, conducting specialty training, resolving medication discrepancies, performing basic buyer duties, and non-hazardous sterile compounding and repackaging.
