About The Position

Join one of the most advanced cardiac surgery programs in the nation and help lead a high-performing surgical team at Cleveland Clinic. The Assistant Nurse Manager/Nurse Practice Manager for the Cardiac Surgery Scheduling office/NPM plays a critical role in coordinating the daily scheduling of 22 cardiac ORs, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. This role oversees the daily OR schedule-verifying that all patient testing, clearances, and resources are complete to keep cases running smoothly. The ANM also fields calls related to inpatient procedures, facilitates pre-procedure nurse practitioner evaluations when needed, and collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing teams to anticipate and address operational needs in real time. The ideal candidate is a highly organized and experienced nurse leader who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment. This role requires exceptional clinical judgment, strong leadership and communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The Nurse Leader will oversee the daily operations of the cardiac OR team, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, quality care, and team collaboration. A caregiver in this position works full-time, 40-hour-per-week position consisting of four 10-hour shifts. Typical hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some variability based on surgical schedules and departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross
  • Two years of recent RN experience

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor the daily schedule for 22 cardiac operating rooms to ensure optimal efficiency and patient safety.
  • Verify all preoperative testing, documentation, and clearances are complete before procedures.
  • Collaborate with surgical, anesthesia, and nursing leadership to address staffing, workflow, and patient care needs.
  • Support nursing staff through mentorship, performance feedback, and active engagement in professional development.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations of team members.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence in patient care.
  • Oversee nursing personnel and patient care providers in the clinical setting.
  • Anticipate and resolve patient care and personnel issues.
  • In conjunction with the clinical manager, ensure maintenance of annual staff competencies and continuing education.
  • Perform duties of the RN Ambulatory as needed.
  • Collaborate with care coordinators to ensure smooth and effective transitions of care.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and patient safety initiatives.
  • Assume responsibilities of the clinical manager as needed.
