Position Overview An Ambulance Mechanic is a specialized professional responsible for maintaining the mechanical integrity and operational readiness of emergency medical service vehicles. At the senior level, this position demands mastery of both mechanical systems and the integrated emergency equipment unique to ambulances. These professionals perform advanced diagnostics, oversee shop workflow, manage parts inventory, and mentor less-experienced mechanics — ensuring that every ambulance meets the highest standards of safety and reliability. As a Senior Ambulance Fleet Mechanic at Professional Ambulance and Oxygen Service Inc., you will take a lead role in performing and overseeing complex repairs, implementing preventive maintenance programs, driving efficiency, and supporting fleet readiness across a mission-critical EMS operation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or associate degree in automotive or diesel technology preferred.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in automotive or heavy-vehicle repair, with 2+ years in emergency or specialty vehicle maintenance.
  • ASE Master Certification and EVT Level II or III strongly preferred.
  • Proven diagnostic and leadership skills in fleet or emergency vehicle operations.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and computer-based vehicle systems.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., work under pressure, and ensure accuracy in documentation and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, on engines, transmissions, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain and repair emergency equipment, lighting systems, oxygen systems, and vehicle-mounted electronics.
  • Use OEM and advanced diagnostic software to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Lead and mentor junior mechanics, providing technical guidance and oversight.
  • Ensure compliance with CAAS GVS and state regulatory maintenance standards.
  • Collaborate with the Fleet Services Director on fleet planning, workflow, and quality assurance.
  • Conduct and document vehicle inspections and certification-related maintenance.
