JOB SUMMARYThe Guest Ambassador serves as a frontline representative of the racetrack during live racing events, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable experience for all guests. This role is responsible for greeting patrons, offering information and assistance, supporting crowd flow, and promoting a positive atmosphere that reflects the professionalism and excitement of live racing. This is a seasonal position for the March race meet at Colonial Downs.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a diverse guest population
  • Ability to remain calm, courteous, and solution-oriented in high-volume or fast-paced environments
  • Strong situational awareness and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions, policies, and safety procedures consistently
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to assist across departments
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, sports, entertainment, or event operations preferred
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Virginia Racing Commission license
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods (up to several hours per shift)
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability to work irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and live racing days
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • The work environment may vary in levels of crowds, noise, flashing lights, and smoke, depending on the assigned station and guest volume.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a racetrack, casino, sports venue, or large event environment is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests upon arrival and throughout the facility in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner
  • Provide accurate information regarding racing schedules, seating areas, wagering locations, amenities, restrooms, concessions, and special events
  • Assist guests with wayfinding and crowd flow, including directing foot traffic during peak attendance periods
  • Serve as a visible point of contact for guest questions, concerns, or minor issues and escalate matters to management or security as appropriate
  • Promote responsible guest behavior and assist with enforcing racetrack rules and policies in a professional manner
  • Support accessibility needs and provide assistance to guests with disabilities or special accommodations
  • Assist during special events, promotions, and high-profile race days as assigned
  • Monitor guest areas for cleanliness, safety, and overall presentation, reporting concerns promptly
  • Maintain a polished appearance and professional demeanor at all times while on duty
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support live racing operations
