About The Position

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Alumni Relations Officer, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at its Detroit campus location. JOB PURPOSE Coordinate, execute and manage alumni programs for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (College). Implement innovative plans and strategies to engage alumni and donors in meaningful ways, generate affinity, loyalty and enthusiasm for the College and its professional events and programs. Conduct purposeful alumni engagement, donor cultivation, pipeline development and qualification efforts. This position reports to the Director, Alumni Relations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in marketing, public relations, business administration or related field.
  • Reasonable knowledge and understanding of university policies and procedures.
  • Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience).
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a development, marketing, or event management professional.
  • ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.
  • COLLABORATION: Exhibits a willingness to partner and model partnership with units across the university with integrity and high character to reach unified goals. Possesses the ability to navigate difficult situations with grace and understanding.
  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. Demonstrates the ability to plan and deliver oral and written communications that are impactful and persuasive including presentations to university management and committees.
  • LEARNING AGILITY: Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.
  • PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational, project and time-management skills required. Maturity, sound judgment and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.
  • TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and Teams. Ability to understand and translate complex concepts into lay terms.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of fundraising software preferred.
  • Higher education development or alumni relations experience and prior volunteer management experience preferred.
  • Experience using social media is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage alumni engagement programs for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences alumni.
  • Implement innovative plans and strategies to engage alumni and donors in meaningful ways, generate affinity and enthusiasm for the College.
  • Oversee the implementation and promotion of social and academic programs and events.
  • Create and update the annual operating plan for the College to meet alumni engagement goals and objectives.
  • Build a strong program to increase participation while meeting alumni engagement objectives and data enhancement goals.
  • Coordinate distribution of electronic communications to targeted alumni audience.
  • Collaborate with the Dean, department chairs, gift officers and other divisional and school colleagues to establish and meet alumni engagement goals and objectives.
  • Cultivate and engage prospects in strategic ways.
  • Use planned activities for pipeline development and to identify prospective donors for the College.
  • Use thoughtful communications to cultivate prospective donors and demonstrate the positive impact of alumni and donor involvement.
  • Work collaboratively across the office of alumni relations team to align strategies, communications, and programming with overall divisional goals.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.
  • Meet regularly to collaborate and review opportunities for partnership.
  • Prepare project and event budgets.
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with university policy and procedures.
  • Remain current with alumni and donor relations trends.
  • Serve as a resource on successful activities, alumni engagement techniques and methods.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
