About The Position

MAI Capital Management is seeking an Alternative Investments Analyst to join its Investment Management Division. This role will work collaboratively with the broader investment team and closely with MAI’s Sports & Entertainment advisory group to support the evaluation, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of alternative investment strategies for MAI’s clients. The Analyst will play a key role in underwriting direct and fund investments across private equity, venture capital, private credit, real assets, and other opportunistic strategies. Responsibilities include performing due diligence, modeling investment opportunities, conducting industry and market research, preparing investment materials, and supporting portfolio construction and client communications. This position requires strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a proactive, collaborative mindset within a lean, fast‑paced investment team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, concentration in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of relevant investment analysis experience in alternative investments, private equity, investment banking, consulting, or related financial services.
  • CFA charter holder or candidate required.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; strong Excel skill is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite alternative investment opportunities, including direct private investments, private funds, and other structured opportunities.
  • Perform thorough quantitative and qualitative due diligence on private equity, hedge funds, real estate, and real assets.
  • Review due diligence materials, evaluate manager or sponsor business plans, and assess market and industry fundamentals.
  • Evaluate complex structures, including liquidity terms, fee structures, and capital call mechanisms.
  • Participate in research and manager calls; prepare and distribute detailed meeting notes to the investment team.
  • Conduct sector, industry, and macroeconomic research to support both new investments and ongoing monitoring of existing positions.
  • Track and analyze ongoing investment performance, comparing results to underwriting, benchmarks, and budgets.
  • Prepare client‑ready quarterly reports and assist in Investment Committee recommendation materials.
  • Participate in Investment Committee meetings; contribute insights and recommendations.
  • Provide support on ad hoc projects or strategic initiatives as needed.
