About The Position

We are currently seeking an Alcohol and Drug Counselor Senior to join our Addiction Medicine team. This full-time role will work on-site. Purpose of this position: Under general supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, provides assessment, referral, and rehabilitative services to patients with addictive disorders in accordance with Minnesota Rule Chapter 9530 and Minnesota Statute 148F specific to practices and responsibilities of licensed alcohol and drug counselors (LADC). This is a float type position consisting of work with individual consolations and group intensive outpatient program work. This position will work 8 am - 4:40 pm while some flexing into the evenings in the future may be needed. This position is posted at the senior level and depending on applicant pool, can down fill to an Alcohol & Drug Counselor or ADC-T position (temporary permit). Minnesota Department of Human Services (245G) requires that licensed chemical dependency treatment programs and individuals hired into such clinics will need to sign a declaration of being free of substance use issues at the present time and for the two years prior to employment. This is a grant funded position for up to five years.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) years' experience as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor providing direct services
  • Rule 245G Regulations
  • Community treatment resources
  • Ability to communicate with other employees and patients
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, be a team player, and promote a positive team environment
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrate good decision making skills, problem solving techniques, and possess the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to use a computer and associated programs
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions
  • Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) issued by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy (BBHT)
  • -AND-
  • Registered with BBHT with “Approved Supervisor Status” (or able to obtain within one year of hire date)

Nice To Haves

  • In Medication Assisted Treatment Service, experience in methadone treatment and/or a mental health setting is preferred
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to alcohol and drug counselor interns or trainees

Responsibilities

  • Conducts initial interviews with patient and recommends appropriate rehabilitative services
  • Provides case management and discharge planning services
  • Conducts screenings and brief interventions
  • Coordinates care with patient's medical and treatment team
  • Conducts funding assessments
  • Utilizes community resources for referrals and assistance
  • Counsels family members as needed
  • Conducts intakes, orientations, and counseling (within treatment services)
  • Conducts educational classes and group meetings (within treatment services)
  • Conducts various types of individual and group therapies (within treatment services)
  • Coordinates medical/legal cases, files paperwork for petitions for commitment and attends court hearings as needed (within consult services)
  • May participate in development of treatment services and programing
  • Precepts student interns and assists with training new staff
  • Other duties as assigned but only after applicable training
