About The Position

In this full-time, on-site South Carolina role, the Alcohol and Drug Counselor serves as a core member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. This position provides individual and group counseling services to adults receiving SUD treatment, utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches. The Alcohol and Drug Counselor plays a critical role in treatment planning, documentation, client engagement, and collaboration with medical and program leadership to ensure compliant and effective care delivery.

Requirements

  • Ability to work full-time, on-site in South Carolina.
  • Required South Carolina licensure or associate licensure as LPC or LMFT, active and in good standing, with ADC credential or eligibility.
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field meeting South Carolina licensure requirements.
  • Experience providing services in SUD and or co-occurring treatment settings preferred.
  • Demonstrated competencies in group facilitation, documentation, and treatment planning.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention strategies.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and South Carolina behavioral health regulations.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary treatment team.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience providing counseling services in substance use and co-occurring treatment settings preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ASAM criteria, documentation standards, and utilization review expectations.
  • Strong assessment skills and ability to support individuals with complex presentations.

  • Ability to manage documentation requirements in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and documentation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling services within PHP and IOP levels of care.
  • Complete biopsychosocial assessments, ASAM-aligned treatment plans, and ongoing documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Facilitate evidence-based group programming focused on relapse prevention, coping skills, emotional regulation, and recovery support.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team including medical providers, case managers, and peer support staff to coordinate client care.
  • Participate in supervision, case consultation, and reflective practice to support quality services and professional development.
  • Maintain ethical boundaries, confidentiality, and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
  • Support a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented treatment environment.
