Under general direction, this position supervises, schedules, and evaluates the activities of personnel and crews responsible for performing maintenance of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) facilities, infrastructure, and systems, ensuring safe and secure operations. Position Overview: The Airport Systems Maintenance Supervisor (Carpentry) oversees and coordinates carpentry and structural maintenance operations at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to ensure safe, compliant, and continuous facility operations. This position supervises skilled trades staff performing installation, repair, fabrication, and preventative maintenance of terminal interiors, structural components, doors and hardware, millwork, framing, drywall, ceilings, flooring systems, and related building assets. The Supervisor plans and prioritizes work assignments, develops scopes of work, prepares cost estimates, monitors work order activity within the Asset Management System (AMS), and ensures compliance with applicable building codes, ADA requirements, TSA regulations, and City of Austin policies. The position collaborates with engineering, project management, contractors, and airport stakeholders to coordinate maintenance and minor construction projects while minimizing operational disruption in a secure, 24/7 airport environment. Additional primary duties include conducting quality assurance inspections, supporting Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) budget planning, overseeing contractor performance, responding to emergency structural repairs, and ensuring staff training, certification tracking, and adherence to safety standards.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of all governmental regulations such as Transportation Security Administration (TSA), EPA, TNRCC, OSHA, FAA, TCEQ, NEC, FDA, TDLR, and other guidelines governing the regulations addressing the operation/maintenance and upkeep of commercial airports.
  • Knowledge of applicable airport procedures and policies.
  • Knowledge of the preparation of equipment or material specifications.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of construction of various types of structures and the use of heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of small engines and the methods and equipment used in the repair and servicing.

  • Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of professional licensing requirements.
  • Knowledge of airport systems and technology.

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus six (6) years of experience in facility or systems maintenance, including two (2) years of experience which were in a lead or supervisory capacity and including two (2) years of experience which were in the Aviation industry.
  • Valid State of Texas Class “C” Driver License.
  • Valid State of Texas Class “A” Commercial Driver License or the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and fluently speak in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a large public-use or secure facility (airport, hospital, university, government complex, or similar 24/7 operation).
  • Strong working knowledge of preventative maintenance planning and asset lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing scopes of work, cost estimates, and contract specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and evaluates the work of master/journey level, skilled, and semi-skilled workers performing routine and complex maintenance and repair work.
  • Manages customer relationships.
  • Keeps customers and project managers informed about status of all projects and manages project deadlines.
  • Performs audits to field investigations.
  • Assists with the development of CIP and O&M sectional budget associated with improvements and enhancements to various systems and facilities.
  • Collaborates with engineering and architectural staff in the planning, development, and modification of Aviation-owned equipment and facilities.
  • Represents the division and the City of Austin in meetings with AUS stakeholders, commissions, and the traveling public.
  • Reviews and analyzes projects to determine scope of work; performs area surveys and blueprint takeoffs to calculate job cost estimates; plans and coordinates projects; and provides budget input for various maintenance, repair, and replacement projects.
  • Consults on blueprints, diagrams, drawings, manufacturer manuals and schematics.
  • Reviews, modifies, and develops equipment maintenance operating procedures and standards.
  • Tracks staff licensing and certifications for compliance.
  • Assists with preparing scopes of work and contracts criteria; and performs evaluations and walkthroughs on specialized plumbing, electrical, building, and mechanical repairs.
  • Monitors Asset Management System (AMS), provides quality assurance review of maintenance and repair activities, and updates the work order database.
  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
