About The Position

Performs as lead worker with responsibility over personnel and specialized work involving the operations of light to heavy-sized equipment in the maintenance and operation of the regional airport. This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. An Airfield Operations/Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant operation/maintenance of an airport's airfield, which includes managing security/safety programs, staff, and maintenance for runways, taxiways, and other critical areas. This role requires ensuring compliance with federal and manufacturer regulations, performing inspections and repairs, maintaining accurate records, implementing a preventive maintenance programs, coordinates with Airport Director and keeps them informed of any and all airfield related issues. Responds to emergencies, and overseeing airfield construction and maintenance projects. Staff and Team Leadership: Supervises, assists in hiring, trains, and schedules airfield operations and maintenance staff. Safety and Compliance: Ensures airfield operations comply with federal regulations (e.g., FAA) and security protocols. This includes enforcing rules for ground safety, airfield driving, and conducting regular inspections. Monitors vehicle and air traffic on airside as it relates to the airport rules & regulations. Airfield Maintenance and Management: Oversees all aspects of airfield maintenance, including inspections, repairs, and upkeep of runways, taxiways, aprons, airfield lighting/markings. This also involves managing equipment maintenance and snow removal plans. Effectively and safely uses herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers in proper maintenance of grounds. Mows grass, controls weeds, landscape, and maintain areas around facilities, runways and fields using a tractor and shredder. Operates equipment such as forklift, bucket truck, runway sweeper, snowplow, and asphalt repair equipment to maintain and repair runways, taxiways, and aircraft parking aprons. Performs janitorial duties in and around the Terminal Building. Emergency Response: Leads and coordinates responses to airfield emergencies and incidents, making critical decisions under pressure, and formulating emergency procedures. Coordination and Communication: Works closely with tenants, pilots, and external stakeholders to ensure smooth operations. Project Management: Assists with the planning, coordination, and oversight of airfield construction projects. Operational Support: Provides support to airport users, manages noise abatement program and keeps detailed records of operations. Communicates with pilots and FAA Flight Service both by radio and telephone. Provides full aircraft line service to include fueling, towing, and greeting pilots and crew members. Oversee Maintenance: Supervise and coordinate daily, weekly, and night-shift maintenance activities to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard. Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and vehicles used in the performance of duties. Ensure Compliance: Ensures all maintenance is performed in accordance with FAA and manufacturer requirements. Manage Infrastructure: Coordinate the maintenance and repair of airport pavements, lighting, visual aids, and related infrastructure. Maintains and performs minor electrical, plumbing, sewer, and structural repairs to airport terminal, hangars, and related buildings. Budget and Administration: Assists with managing budgets, control costs, requisition supplies, and maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities. Personnel Management: Supervises and trains operations/maintenance staff, assign tasks, and guide them in performing proper operations/maintenance activities. Safety and Emergency Response: Conducts safety inspections, develop and implement preventive maintenance programs, and respond to emergency maintenance requests in a timely manner. Provides airport security. Inspects and repair any breaches in the perimeter fence or gates. Record Keeping: Maintain detailed operations/maintenance logs and records, review them for trends, and ensure accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma
  • Two (2) years-experience in Airport Maintenance /Operations or equivalent combination of education and experience that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Work experience with computer word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Ability to harass and/or depredate wildlife in order to ensure flight safety.
  • ASC (Airport Security Coordinator) Certification (or able to obtain within 6 months).
  • Equivalent of higher of a New Mexico Class "D" driver's license.
  • Line Service Fuel Technician Certificate (or able to obtain within 6 months).
  • Line Service Fuel Technician Supervisor Certificate (or able to obtain within 6 months).
