About The Position

Airplane Performance Software Engineer (Experienced or Senior) Company: The Boeing Company Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking an Airplane Performance Software Engineer (Experienced or Senior) to join our Flight Operations Engineering – Customer Support team in Seal Beach, California. The successful candidate will be a qualified, highly motivated professional responsible for developing and testing airplane performance software applications used by aircraft operators across all Boeing commercial models. As a member of the Flight Operations Engineering – Customer Support team, you will manage complex assignments in a multifaceted environment while supporting our mission to deliver world-class service to airline customers and the flying public. The team’s primary focus is implementing aerodynamics and airplane performance characteristics into airplane performance software used for flight planning. Additionally, we develop capabilities to automate manual calculations and simplify complex route-planning tasks, enabling customers to plan and dispatch flights more efficiently. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Seal Beach, California. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Experienced and Senior Airplane Performance Software Engineer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
  • 5 or more years' related work experience
  • 3+ years of experience with software development using either Java, C++, or Python
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Nice To Haves

  • 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • Experience developing software using Java SWT
  • Strong understanding of aerodynamics and airplane performance
  • Solid foundation in software engineering principles, object-oriented programming, and Agile development methodologies
  • Experience with build systems and CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with artifact repositories and source control tools and processes
  • Experience developing engineering and scientific applications in Fortran
  • Experience programming in Python

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and support ground-based performance software applications, including Performance Engineers Tool (PET), Airplane Performance Monitoring Program (APM), Standard Takeoff Analysis Software (STAS), Landing Analysis Program (LAND), Inflight Performance Program (INFLT), and Terminal Area Analysis Performance Program (BCM), to support analysis and planning across all phases of flight.
  • Translate customer requests and engineering data into clear, testable requirements for airplane performance software.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to verify and validate that software requirements and design specifications are met, ensuring code accuracy, completeness, and conformity with engineering standards.
  • Provide Flight Operations service engineering support to airline customers, addressing inquiries related to performance software, operational dispatch, and flight-planning data.
  • Champion continuous improvement of technologies, tools, and processes to increase technical readiness, reduce cycle time, and lower costs.
  • Mentor and train colleagues on work processes and deliverables to build team capability and ensure consistent quality.
