Duties: Direct work with Full Pressure Suits (FPS), helmets, and aircrew flight equipment, specifically providing technical and functional support for U-2 specific/high-altitude life-sustaining equipment. Operating and maintaining special purpose test equipment used to inspect FPS and life support components, especially those specific to high-altitude systems. The Aircrew Flight Equipment Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of critical flight and survival equipment, ensuring aircrew safety and mission readiness. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of aircraft systems, material properties, and safety protocols, along with the ability to perform precise repairs and training. The Contractor will inspect, test, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, install, modify, and adjust a wide range of aircrew flight equipment, including full pressure suits, helmets, survival kits, parachutes, and emergency communication devices, utilizing knowledge of assigned aircrafts’ equipment and related supply procedures. The Contractor will conduct advanced reliability testing on aircrew flight equipment and survival components using specialized test equipment (e.g., oxygen, leakage, radio testers), applying knowledge of Technical Orders and Manuals. The Contactor will maintain accurate inspection and accountability documentation for all issued or prepositioned equipment and conduct periodic inventories. Demonstrating meticulous record-keeping and proficiency in inventory control procedures. The Contractor will create, modify, and repair articles of complex design and construction, utilizing diverse fabrics and materials (including common and newly developed), considering performance characteristics and properties such as dimensional stability, abrasion resistance, and heat sensitivity. The Contractor will plan work when detailed specifications are unavailable, using shop mathematics (fractions, equations, plane measurements) and sketching to calculate dimensions and create intricate cutting layouts. The Contractor may instruct unit personnel on the theory, use, and OJT procedures for maintaining FPS components based on experience level. The Contractor will provide advisory support to management on maintenance procedures evaluating processes and recommending improvements, based on deep understanding of maintenance and repair processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field and at least three years of experience in the respective technical / professional discipline being performed, three of which must be in the DoD or other United States Government (USG) ISR/SOF Organizations. OR, seven years of directly related experience with proper certifications as described in the PWS labor category performance requirements, five of which must be in the DoD or other USG ISR/SOF Organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
