Inspects, maintains, packs and adjusts aircrew flight equipment such as flight helmets, oxygen masks, flotation devices, survival kits, helmet mounted devices, aircrew night vision and other ocular systems and aircrew chemical defense systems. Repairs fabric and rubber components, including protective clothing and flotation equipment. Evaluates problems and determines feasibility of repair or replacement related to inspecting and repairing fabric and rubber equipment. Evaluates work orders for fabrication of authorized items. Installs and removes aircraft-installed AFE. Uses various types of test equipment such as oxygen testers, leakage testers, radio testers, and other types of testers to conduct reliability testing on aircrew flight equipment and aircrew chemical defense ensembles (ACDE). Maintains inspection and accountability documentation on life sustaining appliances issued to aircrews or prepositions on aircraft. In addition, employee will be trained to become certified on certain ground handling tasks such as towing, jacking, refuel/defuel. Although not the primary duties the employee should be prepared to perform when tasked. ADDITIONAL JOB ACTIVITIES: Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Complete AFE and possibly site related tasks as assigned by AFE Lead. Issuing/maintaining/inspecting weapons for aircrew (9mm pistol). issuing/maintaining/inspecting munitions (flares/smokes).
