An employee in the classification is responsible for fire rescue support of the Department of Public Safety. Under limited supervision, operates fire apparatus combating and extinguishing aircraft and other fires as necessary. Work requires the performance of hazardous task under emergency conditions which may include strenuous exertion. Employees are directly engaged in the mitigation of natural and manmade emergencies including, but not limited to; fire suppression, evacuation, rescue, hazardous material accidents, the administration of basic life support protocol, the driving and operation of fire rescue apparatus, training activities, inspections and maintenance of equipment, cleaning and maintaining station, and the conducting of fire, safety, and medical prevention activities. The employee must work well in an emergency and must exercise independent judgement, discretion, and initiative in completing assignments and handling difficult public contact situations requiring considerable tact and knowledge of airport policies, procedures, and programs. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chain of Command.
