About The Position

Air Quality Community Outreach AssistantGrade 10 This is a part time non-exempt position. The Air Quality Community Outreach Assistant, will implement specific educational and marketing strategies to raise awareness of regional air quality challenges and provide education on voluntary strategies and resources to reduce air quality impacts. The position will complete various outreach projects which may include but not limited to: developing a variety of communication materials, website development, conducting outreach events, promotions, and marketing activities, assisting with implementing the ozone garden outreach project, and other initiatives as needed. This role involves multiple opportunities to work on projects aimed at enhancing community engagement and education on regional air quality issues, promoting voluntary actions to enhance air quality, and building strong regional partnerships. The ideal candidate will have interest in environmental education, community planning, marketing, and project management, with a passion for environmental quality and community. This position is primarily in-person, based out of our office in Colorado Springs. However, the Air Quality Community Outreach Assistant may frequently work out in the community, engaging with partners, attending and hosting events, and collaborating with various stakeholders across the region. Community engagement is a vital aspect of this role, and the ability to connect with both existing and potential new partners is essential. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Environmental Science, Planning, Public Administration, Education, or a related field, or 4 years of commiserate experience.
  • Proven experience in community engagement and education, and building strong partnerships.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Illustrator or similar, and relevant communications software.

Nice To Haves

  • Desired experience in program management, environmental education, planning, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the PPACG Environmental Planner to provide program support for the PPACG Air Quality Program
  • In coordination with the PPACG Public Information Officer (PIO), develop and distribute public educational materials about regional air quality issues and voluntary strategies to reduce impacts.
  • Plan, coordinate, and/or attend onsite events, promotions, and marketing activities at partner sites.
  • Assist with coordinating the Air Quality Working Group (AQWG) and implementation of new strategies.
  • Lead various outreach initiatives under Air Quality Awareness Week and Bike to Work Day.
  • Through outreach and education efforts, identify potential new members to join the AQWG to increase involvement in air quality initiatives.
  • Partnership Building: Collaborate with various stakeholders with potential air quality interests, identify areas of overlap and potential collaboration opportunities on air quality initiatives.
  • Educational materials, communications, website, etc.
  • Organize, lead, and attend education and engagement events to raise awareness and participation.
  • Assist with implementation of air quality initiatives, such as the ozone garden project.
  • Assist with agendas, presentations, content, follow-up materials, and other meeting materials as needed.
  • Working with Environmental Planner, identify local air quality partnerships and collaborate with local partners on air quality education initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, such as those on the AQWG, city and county program managers, schools, community organizations, local businesses, etc.
