About The Position

The employee serves as Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic (HVAC) within the Facilities Management Section at the Orlando VAMC in Orlando, FL. Employee is responsible to WS-10 Air Conditioning Foreman. The Journeyman HVAC Mechanic will be responsible for the day to day maintenance and operations of all HVAC systems throughout the Orlando VA Main Campus, Lake Baldwin. In order for the Orlando VA to provide excellent health care that improves Veterans health and well-being. Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform overhaul, installation, maintenance, modification and repair of various types of air conditioning equipment which is characterized by moderate complexity of design, construction and function. Use basic knowledge and skills of the crafts to perform scheduled preventative maintenance inspections, systematic troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of various sizes and types of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and system components. Perform vibration analysis of major building service equipment such as circulating pumps, air handlers, cooling tower fans, medical air compressors and vacuum pumps. Test systems and equipment for leaks, evacuate air and moisture or other foreign matter from refrigerant systems or components using proper refrigerants to obtain optimum operating levels. Install, maintain and repair tubing valves, fittings, castings and equipment by welding brazing, soldering and flaring. Erect or suspend scaffolding in the performance of duties and is responsible for the proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
