About The Position

McGuireWoods is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Artificial Intelligence (AI) Systems Analyst to join our Innovation and AI Department. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management skills, excellent communication abilities, experience with AI, and a solid understanding of the legal industry and law firms. This role will report to and work closely with the Assistant Director on these AI initiatives to accomplish firmwide initiatives. McGuireWoods is at the forefront of piloting cutting-edge AI technology that has the potential to impact law firms in meaningful ways. Our Innovation and AI Department is dedicated to exploring and implementing new AI and generative AI (“GenAI”) solutions to enhance our services and deliver value to our clients. This position is available in most of our office locations.

Requirements

  • College degree or relative work experience.
  • Requires 4+ years law firm or in-house legal experience.
  • Requires 2+ years of AI experience
  • Experience working with attorneys and familiarity with legal work, combined with a strong understanding of technology, AI, and its applications in the legal field.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships across organizational boundaries, to include the IT department, legal groups, general counsel and other administrative teams.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work under high pressure with tight schedules and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes strategies for driving AI adoption, addressing technical barriers and user experience challenges. Facilitates the continuous improvement of training techniques based on lessons learned.
  • Identifies existing work processes that would benefit from AI enhancement and builds AI-automated workflows.
  • Conducts regular 1:1 meetings with attorneys to address complex AI-related challenges and develop tailored solutions.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to identify areas within their practice where AI is particularly useful and help design and implement AI solutions.
  • Create and deliver short-form content addressing common issues, advanced use cases, and frequently asked questions.
  • Oversees and manages AI use cases, considering technical feasibility and limitations, to deliver recommendations, feedback, and metrics in accordance with firm AI strategy.
  • Evaluates AI use cases and makes recommendations in support of firm AI goals that will influence the strategy of the Innovation & AI department.
  • Oversees AI pilot onboarding and offboarding of attorneys and business professionals when evaluating new AI technology. Prepares recommendations following pilot evaluations for senior leadership.
  • Proactively communicates with attorneys, vendors, and the IT department to understand and diagnose use case successes and shortcomings, resolve technical issues related to AI use cases, and deliver constructive feedback to align with firm AI strategy.
  • Ensures that use case information is well documented, including technical specification and limitations, and escalates findings at team meetings.
  • Anticipates and addresses potential technical challenges around attorney use cases.
  • Analyzes new AI functionalities, assessing their technical implications and compatibility with firm systems, and educates attorneys on their use.
  • Manages tasks related to use case testing under project and milestone deadlines.
  • Analyzes new functionalities upon release to understand computability with particular use cases and firm AI strategy and to educate attorneys on how to use.
  • Manages and executes processes pertinent to assessing trends, themes, and issues across use cases, and escalates observations during team meetings.
  • Oversees the regular assessment of processes that measure the effectiveness of firmwide AI strategy, considering technical feasibility and resource constraints.
  • Researches enterprise and specialized AI solutions on the market to compare/contrast functionalities and suitability.
  • Manages and updates information related to the firm’s inventory of AI/ML and GenAI technology, including technical specifications and compatibility details.
  • Provides input and experience to guide firmwide AI decision making, raising awareness of potential technical limitations and risks.
  • Assists in collecting information needed to respond to client AI inquiries.
  • Prepares summaries of work that the team has performed, including qualitative and quantitative data.
