About The Position

Mortenson’s i4 department seeks an AI intern to join our team to help further the goals of the organization. This role will support the development of AI agents and tools that improve how we work – from smarter communication, automation within construction solutions, and predictive insights. The AI Intern will collaborate with the AI team and Data Solutions to prototype solutions, explore emerging technologies, and contribute to real-world applications of Artificial Intelligence. Highlights of your time with this Mortenson internship will include: Assist in building and testing AI agents and custom AI systems Contribute to prompt engineering agent workflows, and user feedback loops Help prepare data sets for training and evaluation, while experimenting with pre-trained models for NPL, computer vision, and generative AI Document learning and contribute to internal knowledge sharing Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related field
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Have proven positive and professional attitude and customer service skills
  • Are detail-oriented, organized, and can effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Have access to reliable transportation
  • Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status, 0-1, TN, CPT, OPT, etc.). We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Nice To Haves

  • Have achieved a minimum overall GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Have experience in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Have experience with LLMs, multimodal models, or generative AI (ex, Azure AI Foundry, Google Vertex)
  • Familiarity with agent frameworks, agentic workflows, and knowledge graph
  • Basic understanding of data pipelines or cloud platforms
  • Basic understanding of construction platforms or workflows (Procore, Autodesk)

Responsibilities
