Arlington Community Schools Position Description AHS Assistant Principal (26-27 school year) Minimum Qualifications and Training: Master's Degree Tennessee Professional Tennessee Teaching License with an endorsement in Educational Administration/Supervision Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a certified teacher Demonstrated leadership in an educational setting Proficient use of computer and software programs, advanced spreadsheet functionalities, and specialized software applications Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels Ability to prepare clear, concise, accurate and complete reports including statistics Such alternatives as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable Goals: To assist the principal in meeting instructional, administrative, and operational goals by performing the responsibilities necessary to provide leadership in the development, implementation, and coordination of the overall school program. Performance Responsibilities: Provides leadership to insure understanding of and compliance with the educational objectives, policies, and procedures of Arlington Community Schools Assists the principal in the general administration of the school to include managing discipline, attendance, student activities and any other area assigned Assists the principal and faculty in the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan Keeps abreast of developments in literacy and math curriculum, instruction, and technology, and recommends their suitability for inclusion in the school’s educational program Assists in the development of school and system professional development programs that will strengthen the instructional program Assists the principal and faculty in the interpretation of test and other pertinent data and the promotion of activities designed to improve student achievement Assists in general coordination of the special education program and serves as the principal’s designee in IEP meetings as required Assists in the performance evaluation of faculty and staff under the direction of the principal Asserts leadership in time of emergency in accordance with established Arlington Community School Board policy and procedures Improves professional skills and knowledge; assumes educational leadership roles; and performs duties in a professional, honest, and responsible manner Adheres to administrative regulations and directives Assists with developing school discipline procedures and code of conduct Monitors student discipline and works with appropriate school and district personnel for investigative, resolution and reporting purposes Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions Cooperates in conducting inspections and inventories of school equipment and materials, maintaining records, and checking on receipts for such equipment and materials Assists in establishing and implementing emergency procedures within the school. Assists in providing professional development programs and required training to appropriate staff Assumes responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services Assists in the organization and supervision of the student activity program. Serves with parent, faculty and student groups as requested in advancing educational related activities and objectives Directs textbook and supply distribution Improves professional skills and knowledge, assumes educational leadership roles, and performs duties in a professional, honest, and responsible manner Uses oral and written communication skills correctly and effectively Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal/district level administrator may assign. Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises students, teachers, visitors, and community while on campus. Also supervises all in general common areas, after school activities, and school sponsored events when necessary. Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable. High School campus environment (outdoor activities and indoor activities) Consistent and prompt attendance is imperative for this role Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. required to stand; walk; bend; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Regularly move about inside the classroom/school Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds. Reports to: Principal Salary: starting at $103,883 based on FY26 Salary Schedule The High School Assistant Principal maintains a forty-hour (40) workweek and works additional hours as required to carry out all of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
