About The Position

We are seeking a driven and experienced Agribusiness Tax Supervisor or Manager to join our growing team in Dunn, NC. In this role, you will lead tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for our agribusiness and farm clients while supervising staff and delivering exceptional client experiences. You will play a key role in helping farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness owners navigate complex tax issues, optimize their operations, and achieve long-term financial success. Client Service Excellence Understand client deadlines and deliver high-quality work on time and within budget. See the big picture of each client’s business and industry, thinking creatively to solve problems and add value through management comments, tax planning ideas, and strategic advice. Scope engagements effectively, manage expectations, and build strong, ongoing relationships with clients at appropriate organizational levels. Take initiative to identify best practices, process improvements, and opportunities to help clients succeed. Supervise multiple complex engagements efficiently while maintaining professionalism and a helpful, proactive approach. People Management & Team Development Supervise, mentor, and develop senior and staff accountants; assign phases of engagements, manage staff utilization, and delegate effectively without losing oversight. Serve as a developmental coach, deliver internal CPE/training, and foster loyalty and trust within the team. Proactively communicate work status, direct questions to the right resources, and maintain a positive, motivating attitude that inspires others. Productivity, Business Growth & Expertise Achieve productivity and realization goals by understanding engagement economics. Conduct thorough self-reviews, ensure high-quality work products with strong attention to detail, and perform effective in-charge reviews of engagements. Master tax software for preparation, review, and research; prepare complex tax returns, financial statements, footnotes, and client deliverables. Research complex tax, accounting, or audit issues and form well-supported conclusions. Stay current with tax codes, regulations, rulings, and case law, with a focus on agribusiness-specific topics such as farm income averaging, crop insurance, livestock/depreciation rules, Section 179/179D deductions, USDA program payments, casualty losses, and succession/estate planning for farm operations. Continuously identify ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness while contributing to a strong professional network and community involvement. You will have direct client responsibilities and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our agribusiness clients’ tax and business outcomes.

Requirements

  • Location: Must live within commuting distance to Dunn, NC, or be willing to relocate.
  • Experience: At least 4–6 years of progressive public accounting experience (or equivalent), with extensive experience and deep knowledge of agribusiness and farm tax compliance, planning, and advisory services.
  • Technical Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of federal and state tax laws, with specialized knowledge in agriculture-related provisions (e.g., farm-specific deductions, credits, inventory methods for livestock/crops, income deferral strategies, and estate/succession planning for family farms).
  • Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required. CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) status strongly preferred (or actively pursuing).
  • Skills: Strong technical tax skills, including the ability to research complex issues and prepare/review a wide range of tax returns (individual, partnership, S-Corp, C-Corp, and farm-specific filings).
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and GAAS.
  • Proven ability to supervise multiple engagements, manage staff, and maintain control over projects while meeting deadlines and budgets.
  • Excellent client relationship management skills and a track record of delivering exceptional service.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation and research software.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.
  • Personal Attributes: Positive attitude, self-awareness, initiative, and a genuine desire to help clients and team members succeed. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
