About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an Agency Medical Release Liaison to ensure timely execution of all mandated duties under the Joe Coleman Medical Release Act. This position will be responsible for coordinating the medical release process, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements, conduct quality control checks of medical evaluations and serve as the primary point of contact for all Prisoner Review Board (PRB) medical evaluation requests, tracking the requests, and other similarly related tasks associated with supporting the Joe Coleman Act. This position will be instrumental in the training of medical providers, HCUAs, and ancillary staff at each facility.

Requirements

  • Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine, a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (OD).
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least three (3) years of administrative experience in a healthcare organization.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working with correctional medicine.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience working with compassionate release processes.

Responsibilities

  • Shall be responsible for coordinating the medical release process, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements, and conducting quality control checks of medical evaluations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all Prisoner Review Board (PRB) medical evaluation requests, tracking the requests, and other similarly related tasks associated with supporting the Joe Coleman Act.
  • Ensure all medical evaluations are returned by the physician or nurse practitioner within 7 days of receipt.
  • Conduct a thorough quality control assessment of the medical evaluation.
  • Training of medical providers, HCUAs, and ancillary staff at each facility.
  • Ensure all electronic or paper files are maintained in the Office Health Services for each medical release evaluation request received. The file shall contain the medical evaluation request, the completed medical evaluation form, and the signed medical releases.
  • Maintain records to facilitate internal auditing and external reporting.
  • Coordinate data tracking with planning research.
