This temporary position is with NC DPS – ABC Commission, located at 400 E Tryon Rd., Raleigh NC, Wake County. Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $46.50 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application). The Dept of Public Safety, ABC Commission is hiring for a temporary, Agency Legal Consultant II to render legal advice regarding complex statutes, constitutional issues and unique issues without precedent. The selected candidate for this role reports to an Assistant Agency General Counsel II and will have the following key responsibilities:

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of administrative law.
  • Thorough knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the programmatic or administrative areas to which the position is assigned.
  • Ability to interpret laws, rules, regulations, and court decisions.
  • Ability to analyze facts, evidence, and legal documents.
  • Ability to express legal interpretations or conclusions of law clearly and logically in oral and written form.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other persons contacted in the course of work.
  • Juris Doctor from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related professional legal or programmatic experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct negotiations, settlements and trials on behalf of the Commission
  • Review and draft legal documents, opinions, and legislation
  • Create legal responses to litigation
  • Prepare and argue law briefs
  • The selected candidate may be assigned travel within the State
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Agency General Counsel
